18th September 2011 - Chicken Training

Today I attended a chicken training workshop and was able to practice my training skills on a new species - chickens! Armed with a 'clicker' and a sense of humour I  spent the day applying the concepts of learning theory to chicken training with some great results.  See below for some footage from the day:

Associating the 'clicker' with the arrival of a pan of food

23rd September 2010 - Paws Off welcomes the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC)

Worryingly, up until this year there has been no regulation within the animal behaviour and training industry.  Absolutely anybody has been free to set up as a 'behaviourist' regardless of experience or qualifications.  As a result, many puppies and dogs have been subjected to poorly run training classes and many owners have been given behaviour advice that, is not only incorrect, but could also have a dramatic impact on the welfare of the animal.

The newly formed Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) will set and maintain the standard of knowledge and practical skills required to be an animal trainer or animal behaviour therapist and it will maintain the national register of appropriately qualified animal trainers and animal behaviourists.

Nicole is a member of several of the Founder Groups of the Council including; the Companion Animal Behaviour Study Group (CABSTG), Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) and Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).  She is also working towards accreditation with the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB). With such strong links with a number of the organisations involved with this regulatory body, you can be assured that the services provided by Paws Off are of the highest quality.

You wouldn't want an unqualified teacher to teach your child so why settle for an unqualified trainer to train your puppy/dog?

16th September 2010 - Good Luck Sam!

Sam Bailey started assisting at the Paws Off classes in July 2009.  We were very proud when he passed his A-Levels this summer with fantastic results and accepted a place at Sheffield University studying Landscape Architecture.  We will be very sad to see him go but wish him the best of luck for his future.  Good Luck Sam!!!
